Of Doreen’s father James William Beech I knew that he was born in Hallgate, Wigan on the 3rd October 1891. His father, I was told, was James Beech and he was a tinker who traveled around selling glass and china. His mother, Rebecca Sampson, was Jewish and was disowned for marrying his father. She dies young after her 8th childbirth. I have been able to trace both families with the help of the late 19th century censuses. But I have now got stuck with Rebecca’s Jewish family. They were Manchester Jews from the Cheetham area and I think I will have to contact the Manchester Jewish Museum to get any further.
I would also have expected to find more of the Beech family in the All Saints, Wigan parish records as they lived right next to this church.
