3 Laundry bags

We have just moved into our new flat and one of the things I didn’t bring with us was our laundry basket. Instead I found this wonderful tutorial from // Between the lines // on how to make hanging laundry bags. I have tried it out and I am liking the result. We have been using them for a couple of weeks now and they work well. I made three different ones. One for white clothes, one for black clothes and one for coloured clothes.

Here are a couple of pictures of the process. If you want to make something similar I urge you to go and have a look at the tutorial – its really easy to understand.

Attaching the hanger part to the french seam drawstring bag (see tutorial here - also by // Between the lines //) – this one is for the coloured clothes.

Update

Where have you been lady? Well I’ll tell you! Since my last post I have been moving to Denmark and become pregnant and I have recently begun posting again but over on Eddie’s room. I have had a little restructure of my blogs (why I don’t just stick to one I have no idea).

I am going to keep Grey Duckling for things that I design/produce – be it tutorials (like the one on how to recycle yarn from a sweater), lace and lace patterns (like the bobbin lace flowers) or special DIY projects.

On the agenda for Grey Duckling for the rest of the year are a couple of projects I have been working on. One is sewing curtains out of old shirts (see the taster below). Another is making a blanket out of old jeans. I have a couple more decoupage projects I want to show off too. I will probably talk about them as they come along over on Eddie’s room but I will publish the finished result with instructions on how I did it here. I am also planning some lace to use with baby clothes (something I have been sewing a bit of with my sister recently). Last but not least John will continue to use the Grey Duckling blog to show off his drawings once he gets settled in and has time to do some.

Eddie’s room will then be my main blog where I will post refashions, knitting, sewing, photography, food and bits from the home. It will also be where I update little snippets from my pregnancy.

I am still on facebook, twitter and pinterest where you are very welcome to come over and have a chat.

I’m back

So it’s been a while since I last posted here on Grey Duckling. It seems that time has just flown by. I don’t know about you but since New Year each week has just disappeared into thin air and I find myself constantly saying things like: ‘I can’t believe we are in the middle of February’, ‘I can’t believe that it’s March already’ and now ‘I can’t believe that Easter is next week’.

Colour wheel closeup

First off I want to share with you something amazing I did in my little blogging holiday. I went to France for the first time and stayed with my friend Cecile’s parents. While we were there we did some dyeing experiments (as you can see from the colour wheel we produced above).
While I have stuck to taking pictures and otherwise being quite lazy about it, Cecile has done a wonderful job of documenting the experiments on her blog Ways of the Whorl. We experimented with Alum Mordanting with Heuchera Plants, dyeing with onion skins which produced wonderful oranges, and dyeing with black beans with produced equally wonderful blues. We did some more experimenting which Cecile will talk about on her blog too and I will try to keep you posted about this.
I for my part started a flickr group where we are sharing our photos of the experiments.

In other news I have moved the Historic Crafts blog over to a blogger platform. It can now be found at http://historic-crafts.blogspot.com. I have also moved my family history blog over to a blogger platform.
Over the next couple of months there will be more moving about I’m afraid. I would really like to revive my original blog roued.com and move more of the things relating to what I am doing like refashions, knitting and DIY over there. This would make more room here on Grey Duckling for John’s illustrations and my lace making. I will let you know how that goes.

Take care,
Eddie
